Hannah and Nick

This Saturday, these two beautiful people got engaged! Hannah and Nick both graduated from Virginia Tech in 2018 and 2019, after starting to date at the beginning of 2018. After doing long distance while Hannah was finishing up her last year at school, they moved to Williamsburg together where Hannah attended grad school, and then found a job as a teacher, and where Nick already had a job. They met at their best friend Jamie’s 20th birthday party, because she knew each of them separately. Since then the rest is history…

On Saturday, Hannah thought she was just on a girls’ trip with her friends for the weekend, while behind the scenes Nick was driving to Blacksburg to surprise her with a proposal! Nick wanted to propose at the gazebo at the Duck Pond, so the girls went to brunch and then took a walk across campus. Hannah’s reaction when she saw Nick was such genuine excitement, it truly melted my heart. Nick got down on one knee, and again, Hannah’s reaction was so pure. Her ring is absolutely STUNNING! We then decided to take some portraits, which were so much fun to capture.

We then decided to walk to take some pictures at Burrus, where we happened to run into the Hokie Bird! Hannah very excitedly flagged him down and he happily took photos with the happy couple, and even pretended to propose to Hannah! I always love when the Hokie Bird shows up during portrait sessions, because it is such an iconic Virginia Tech photo.

While we were stalling and taking pictures, Hannah and Nick’d friends and family were preparing surprise number three for Hannah, and putting together a surprise engagement party at Rising Silo Brewery. Once we finished pictures at Burrus, I parted ways with the happy couple and their friends, but headed over to the surprise party. They had set up photos of Nick and Hannah all over this adorable old truck, had little flower arrangements, and even had adorable cookies made. The other surprise was that Nick had brought their new puppy, Sully, and dropped her off at his parents house prior to the proposal. Not only did friends and family show up to surprise Hannah, but Sully came too!

Hannah and Nick’s pure joy, love, and excitement was truly contagious. Sharing in their special day was such an honor, and an absolutely incredible experience. I’m a sucker for a great love story, and this day was so beautiful, it could have been in a book. Hokie love stories are my new favorite kind :)
